Leadership Development and Team Cohesion for Private Equity-Owned Wealth Management Firm

Hanover has partnered with a private equity owned client that specialises in cross-boarder wealth structuring, tax law and non-traditional assets for high net worth individuals and institutions.

They have over €45 bn of assets under administration and 400 employees serving more than 25 markets.
Having already successfully partnered with Hanover’s Executive Search team to place a number of senior leaders, the Chief HR Officer (CHRO) approached Hanover to discuss their broader leadership needs.

They shared with us the requirement to accelerate growth across the regions in which they operate, fuelled by clear opportunities in the market and performance expectations from their parent company.

With the CHRO and newly appointed CEO, we agreed to run a series of development activities for the executive leadership team to bring them together to focus on themselves, the team and the business. The primary objective was to create clarity on direction and buy-in at all levels.

The first step in the process involved a temperature-check across the ten members of the team through confidential one to one context calls. To build self-awareness, we also included personality profiling before bringing them together for a series of workshops. We fed back the key themes from these discussions and facilitated in a supportive, light hearted but robust manner that was extremely well received.

Once the team had a mutual understanding of the true challenges and opportunities facing them and the business, they articulated a clear team purpose and defined the scope and work of the team.

We also supported them to build resilience through a focus on building a feedback culture. The next step involved establishing team processes and agreeing behavioural expectations. This included exploring communication and conflict styles.

Due to the positive feedback from the team, Hanover continued to work with the executive team through regular workshops. Some leaders also benefited from executive coaching to help them further increase their self-awareness and effectiveness.

Hanover went on to work with other teams, including the European HR team, and delivered 360 feedback and coaching to senior leaders in the UK, Europe and US.
